Description
Out of the total of 3,797 Mercedes 280 SE Coupés ever produced, we have offered quite a few for sale during our more than thirty years in the classic car hobby. This particular coupé will always stand out in our memory thanks to its condition, harmonious color combination, and history!
From approximately 1979 to 2013, the coupé was owned by a US military member stationed in Virginia, who frequently drove the Mercedes onto the base. To facilitate identification, he had to affix stickers to the front—stickers that remain in place to this day! Before the recent re-chroming process, these stickers were carefully removed and subsequently reapplied. It is wonderful that this worked out so well!
Sold to the current owner about ten years ago via the Mercedes Classic Center in Hamburg, the car boasts remarkably solid structural integrity and remains largely original.
The current owner has invested a great deal of time and money in recent years to further improve the vehicle. Here are a few examples:
Underbody dry-ice blasted
Four new Michelin XWX tires (2016)
Rims blasted and painted black
New stainless steel exhaust installed
Complete repaint in original color code 181 (2016)
Right-hand side mirror installed
