Description
John and Rachel G. from Los Altos Hills, California, USA, were probably very happy about their new Mercedes 560 SL at the end of 1985, which was waiting for them in the Mercedes Brugger showroom in Redwood City, California.
This SL with the extremely tasteful and very rare color combination of blue-black metallic with date leather accompanied the couple from 1985 until the 560 SL was sold to Europe in 2022. The car was registered to John G. until the end! This 107 has never been registered in Germany.
Clearly John and Rachel have always treated the SL with care. The first leather, the first carpet are in very nice condition.
Since the 560 has been in Germany, the bumpers have been converted to the usual European appearance, the brake light has been removed from the trunk lid, the taillights and headlights have been swapped for the European versions, the rims have been painted and fitted with new tires, and all instruments have been converted to our metric system rebuilt and prepared.
In addition, the engine mounts, V-belts, ball joints, wiper blades (which are shockingly expensive!) and other wear parts were replaced during maintenance.
Cleaning the subfloor with dry ice does require a certain amount of effort, both in terms of time and money, but the result is always astonishing. From below, our 107 now looks similar to a young used car!
At our local Bosch dealer, the air conditioning system was put back into operation (which was drained when imported into the EU), the front axle was measured and the cruise control control unit was repaired.
The main German acceptance test at Dekra has taken place and an H number report also already exists.
A real highlight should be the hood - it is the first hood assembled in the factory!
