Description
If there's one absolute cult car that virtually all petrolheads, young and old, fall to their knees in awe and desire, it's the AC Cobra!
Since the availability of the originals from the 1960s is unfortunately extremely limited, and the prices payable today are beyond the reach of most hobbyists, we are all the more pleased to present a successor that is fully recognized in Cobra circles: an Autokraft AC Cobra MK IV.
After production of the first three Cobra series ended, Brian Angliss began manufacturing spare parts for Cobras, as the manufacturer AC had shown little interest in them. Gradually, Angliss added more and more parts to his range and, after he had the wooden mold for the Cobra bodies at his disposal, was able to consider building complete Cobras.
In 1975, a 7-liter Cobra was built, and due to demand, planning soon began for the construction of a legitimate successor to the AC Cobra MK III. Discussions were held with AC, Ford, and Carroll Shelby, and Brian Angliss not only received the green light but also the rights to use the names.
By 1996, around 480 examples of the Autokraft Cobra MK IV had been hand-built.
Our Cobra was imported new by Auto Becker in Düsseldorf. This makes it one of three (!) Autocraft Cobra MK IV that were officially imported to Germany, according to very well-informed circles. It served as a demonstration car for about a year and was sold in 1990 to a private individual from Aichtal, who, among other things, had the larger engine installed.
The engine and transmission conversion was carried out in 1993 by the highly respected ACR company in Düsseldorf. They specialize in engine construction, specializing in racing cars and racing engines. The work is documented by invoices with a precise list of steps and a performance diagram.
The vehicle registration document currently shows 368 kilowatts (500 hp!!) with a 5.7-liter displacement.
Besides Auto Becker in Düsseldorf, there is only one other owner listed in the Bief - a fairly well-known motorcycle racing driver at the time.
