Description
Carmen G. from Los Angeles, California, USA, took delivery of this Mercedes 280 SL on October 21, 1970. This is evidenced by the small metal plaque that was supplied with the car when new. It is rare for this small tag to still be present, yet that is the case here !
Between 2008 and 2010, Gunnar Hahn—known as the "Pagoda Pope of the North"—restored the vehicle. Documentation of the work performed shows costs exceeding €135,000; the car is truly magnificent !
Since the restoration was completed, the SL has remained under the care of the Hahn firm; invoices for this ongoing maintenance are also included in the vehicle's file.
During this process, the US-spec rear axle originally installed was replaced with a European version featuring a significantly taller gear ratio (1:3.69). Additionally, a sports-tuned suspension system from Mechatronic was fitted.
Over the last 16 years or so, the 280 SL has been driven only about 5,400 km, leaving it in a condition comparable to a meticulously maintained one-year-old car.
We have rarely had the privilege of driving a Pagoda that performs as beautifully as this one does! You simply never want to get out...
Then there is the exceptionally harmonious color combination: beige-grey exterior (Code 726—the original factory color!) paired with a green soft top and green leather interior. It is a dream!
This 280 SL Pagoda requires absolutely no further work—the fuel tank is even full!
