Description
This beautiful Mercedes Pagoda was purchased by Mr. C. in 1972 from Cadillac in Douglas, Wyoming, when it was about a year old. The previous owner had traded in the SL for a Cadillac convertible because he simply needed more space.
Mr. C. owned the 280 SL for a long time until he passed it on to his son in the 2000s due to his age. This son created a small illustrated book about the car. Various photos show the car and its former owners on tours through the USA. Excerpts from the book are available to us and will be given to the buyer with the vehicle file.
In 2015, the son finally decided to give up the car, and so the Pagoda found its way to the Mercedes Classic Center in Hamburg.
There, among other things, the US headlights and bumpers with horns were replaced with European versions, and the speedometer was completely rebuilt.
Based on the data card, it was already possible to determine at the time that the 280 SL still had its original engine.
The current owner has now asked us to offer the SL. During its use, the Mercedes was repainted, and the interior was completely refurbished with cognac-colored leather by a top-of-the-line dealer in Bremen. The carpet was also replaced on this occasion, of course. The convertible top, however, was not. We think it could still be the original soft top – a real highlight !
Today, this 280 SL stands exceptionally beautifully, drives absolutely brilliantly, and delights with its astonishingly good structure. The floor and the four fenders are still original – thanks to the apparently dry climate in Wyoming, USA, where the convertible spent most of its life.
